When my Bibi (a 6.88 kg white peke/pom cross)was pts last week, the vet also gave him 1 shot only. She cut some of his hair from his leg & started the injection of pink fluid slowly. Bibi was angry when caught by the vet assistant with a towel. He left in a matter of seconds. His eyes still opened & tongue stuck out. Vet said he has turned himself to a complete relaxed mode. She helped him putting back the tongue to his mouth.

I broke down after the vet announced his death. However, I didn't regret going into the room with him. I don't want my beloved son to die in a foreign & cold place with strangers.I think he was looking at me in his final moments. Hope he recognise me & we can re-join one day. I still miss my boy very much. I hope he can find peace & enjoy himself in a world w/o collar/leash & frightened pedestrians.

He knew you were there and the last voice he heard was yours and the last face he saw was yours. That was the final thing he took with him and he woke up at the Bridge free of all that burdened him here....no more fears of any kind at all... The people who have been chosen to go there are beloved of all animals and help with things. Bibi is fine and happy and will be coming back to look for you one of these days! Be at peace

Angels euthanasia was very peaceful. My vet took her out of the room and put a little iv line into her leg before the procedure, that way there was no poking or stabbing her during the process. She did perk up and look at the vet right before she passed but my vet explained to me that often they will feel a bit woozy as the drugs begin to take effect. She just laid her head back on my leg and went to sleep. It took a minute for her heart to stop though and I knew the exact moment when she was gone.

It was very peaceful and I'm very thankful that I decided to stay with her until the end. I know it would have been scary for her if I wasn't there with her.

A couple of days after her death I got a card in the mail from the vets office with her paw-print inside of it and the date of her death. I cried my eyes out when I saw it but what a wonderful, thoughtful thing to do. For now I've put it away along with her sweater and collar, but once a little time has passed I think I will treasure the card always.

Do any vets still use Potassium Chloride?

I'm fairly certain this is what the vet did with a dog I had euthanized a few years back. They relaxed the crap out of him before giving him the actual injection.
