Sealyham TerrierThe birth of this breed can be closely followed, because its creator, the British captain John Edwards, of Sealyham, made a precise outline of the changes that this breed was undergoing. The captain strives to select a dog of white breed, small height, lively, brave, intelligent and easy to domesticate. In order to do that, he used the Cheshire terrier, the Pembroke welsh corgi, the dandie dinmont terrier, the hard-haired fox terrier and in order to consolidate the white hair, the west highland white terrier. He made a severe selection of the descendants of these litters where he especially stressed the practical utility for hunting. If a seven month-old dog was not skillful enough to follow a fox or a badger to the burrow, the dog was rejected from the process of selection. The breed was officially recognized in 1911. Then, the Sealyham terrier lost part of its impetuosity when it was used especially as a pet dog and when the dogs of quiet character were preferred. Although the standard still prescribes a hunting instinct and aggressiveness among its most outstanding aspects, loyalty and qualities that make it a good dog to live in a house are highlighted. The most recent terrier breed is the cesky terrier or Czech terrier that was recognized in 1963 by the FCI. This breed was born from the cross of the Sealyham terrier and the Scottish Terrier. The objective was to create a new terrier dog with a hair that needs special care. The cesky terrier is great as a pet dog. It is quiet and affectionate with children. Sealyham terrier.
