How Fleas Are and How To Attack Them

For dog owners, fleas are the most common parasites, both for the frequency with which they appear on their mascots as with the difficulties they have removing them. That's why it's interesting and important to know more about their biological cycle as that way you will be able to fight against them in a more efficient and effective way.

Fleas always live on the surface of the skin, generally preferring the back, abdomen and also the perianal and perigenital areas. In puppies, however is more common to find them around the neck and head. If you want to know is your dog has fleas, it's not necessary to see them running around on your dogs fur, all you have to do is observe the excrement that the fleas leave around different concrete places on your dog.

A dog's fleas generally live permanently on the dogs themselves feeding off of their . When they bite, the fleas inject an anti-coagulant and provoke an anti-genic reaction which is responsible for the allergic dermatitis to fleas. The female fleas lay the eggs on the dogs fur and then they fall to the floor or on the couch or other frequented places. In order to get an idea of how fast they multiply, of female flea can they are around 30 and 50 eggs a day -- go figure!

From the eggs that have been laid, out will come flea larvae which, after three changes, will become pupae. The pupae remained in a dormant stage until

the conditions are favorable for their birth. These conditions are: the detection of vibration and an adequate temperature. The amount of time that passes between the laying of the eggs and the time they hatch depends on the environmental conditions. Therefore, when the conditions are favorable (during summer) the cycle can take place in about 15 days whereas when the conditions are not favorable (during winter) the cycle can take about a year.

Fleas, apart from causing the loss of more or less important quantities of blood, and causing discomfort to the animals that are affected by them, can also transmit a parasite of the small intestine because the fleas introduce the larva of that parasite when inoculating the dog. The objective of that parasite is the intestine. This could be a reason why a dog that has never had any contact with other dogs can have intestinal worms. Likewise, you must treat dogs and cats for internal parasites whenever they have been infested by fleas as the transmission of this parasite is usually quite frequent.

The treatment consists of applying the necessary flea shampoo as well as the use of collars, sprays, etc. however, that is not enough as is most generally the case, wherever the dog has been around there are more fleas, and eggs that are ready to hatch. For this reason is important to also clean all the area where the dog has been or will be.
