Havana Bichon
Description:
This dog is small, has short legs and is a type of Bichon. It is considered to be robust underneath is lavish and soft coat. This dog's average height is between twenty two to twenty nine centimeters and it kind of hops when it walks. If you are thinking about acquiring one of these dogs make sure it doesn't look square, it should be longer than its height. Its legs should be short however they shouldn't be too short either. This dog has a medium size head and should be in proportion with its body. Its eyes are big, dark and have an almond shape to them and it has a very affectionate, gentle look. If you notice that its eyes look small, round or are pigmented it is not a good sign. The superior line should look straight and slightly ascends over its hindquarters. The neck is moderately longish and its thorax is well rounded, its feet are compact and well arched. It carries its tail up high and curls over its back and is long and silky. Its undercoat is soft and it varies anywhere from curly to straight. Curly hair tends to get tangled so its best to take care of it so that it is wavier. Make sure to not cut its hair with the exception of the hair on its feet which should be kept clean at all times. An adult Havana bichon can grow anywhere from fifteen to twenty centimeters in length. Their color varies anywhere from all white to crème, champagne, golden, black, silver, chocolate or have a combination of these colors.
Ideal owner:
The Havana Bichon is known to be a very happy dog and acts like a puppy all its life. They are very good house dogs and enjoy a house life and require of a lot of affection from its owners. The only thing about this dog is that it does not smell, but a great advantage is that it does not lose its hair and because of this it is an excellent choice for people that have problems with allergies. They can be easily trained and can be trusted to be left off a leash and they are excellent for dog-champion shows. They also socialize really well and adapt well to new people and situations. In general they get along really well with children but can sometimes be shy and reserved with adult strangers. Although it is easy to train for home life it can do some unexpected things outside of the house. The Havana Bichon is a great swimmer and can learn a lot of tricks.
Growth:
The Havana Bichon requires a lot of special care and needs to be protected. A puppy at eight weeks usually weighs around one kilogram. If you are interested in getting one, make sure to avoid picking one that is shy. Their hair usually changes to the adult hair at around eight months of age. The longer haired ones can have problems with the hair knotting and up keeping the hair of an adult is a bit easier. A puppy that is born black usually changes colors such as to silver and those that are born dark usually become lighter and then become darker again as they age. They become full grown adults at the age of fifteen or sixteen months. They require of a healthy diet during their whole lives.
General health:
The great thing about this dog is that is very healthy and in general does not suffer from big health problems. This dog is usually very resistant at the age of eight weeks, which is generally the normal age an owner would take it to live with him or her in their new home. However, keep in mind that all smaller dogs are fragile because of their size. Just as with other Bichon breeds, the breeder will need to examine the puppy to see if it suffers from cataracts and progressive retina atrophy, although it should not be considered an alarming situation if this happens. The amount of exercise this dog needs is fairly easy to follow through with; they are active dogs both inside and outside of the house. The owner should brush its coat at least three times a week but the good thing is that it is not complicated to take care of its coat. The average lifespan of the Havana Bichon is between fourteen to sixteen years.
