Wire-haired Steyr Mountainous Pointer Dog Breed

Wire-haired Steyr Mountainous Pointer Dog Breed
Steirischer Rauhaariger - Hochgebirgsbracke

Austria

The main difference between this variety of pointer and the most common German breeds is that the Austrian variety has wire hair and the legs are bit longer. It is muscular and has a vigorous constitution; besides it has the well-developed instinct of a hunting dog. The eyes may be dark brown or yellow; the ears are fallen, unlike the rest of the body, they are covered with short and soft hair. The tail is curved like a saber, and it has a hair plume at the end. The hair is wire and thick.

The color is pale fawn, sometimes with a small white patch on the chest. The height is 40 to 50 cm
