West Siberian Laika Dog Breed
Russia (Ex-Soviet Union)
The West Siberian Laika is not but one of the five Laika varieties that have spread out over all the northern regions in the former Soviet Union. None of the varieties has numerically progressed outside their native zones, where they are used as farmstead dogs, hunting dogs, or as guard dogs, all in one.
Its "space dog" condition has well contributed to its popularity. Moreover, there is news that it is very used in the former Soviet Union with medical and experimental purposes.
As most Pomeranian breeds, the West Siberian Laika gives the impression of a vivacious and vigorous dog. It has to be robust; a quite long body; head in a cot form, with triangular ears, and oblique eyes.
It is medium-sized and its color is commonly white with some orange tons. However, the color, as well as its the height at withers, can vary quite a bit.
