The smallest of the varieties of French Pointers has been formed during a long period of careful breeding which objective was to reduce its size without losing its excellent ability as a pointer. Nowadays, it is mainly used in the South West of France and it is different from the large French Pointer, because its hair is shorter and smoother.

The height at withers must be 47 to 56 cm in other words, should not exceed the minimum height of its taller relative.
