Sloughi Dog BreedMorocco The sloughi is probably the rarest sight hound breed that there is in the West. Sometimes it has been confused with the Saluki, but it actually has certain characteristics that distinguish them from this breed. Its past is not like the saluki's either. It is probable that sloughi was formed in Morocco as a result of the movement of the primitive Asian African sight hound towards the West, along the coast of North Africa. The ruling class of Morocco adopted it and produced the type of sloughi in its kennels. Since then, the sloughi started to get crossed with other breeds so the specimens of pure blood are very rare. The sloughi's physical constitution differs from the saluki because of its a little heavier complexion and a black patch in the shape of "glasses" that are frequently present around the eyes. The color is usually sandy, sometimes multi-colored. The height at withers is 55 to 75 cm. |
