Sicilian Greyhound Dog Breed Cirneco dell'EtnaItaly The Sicilian Greyhound (Cirneco dell'Etna) is one of the smallest sight hound breeds and as in the case of most of its relatives of the group, it is believed to be very ancient. It is likely that it has moved from Egypt to Sicily more than one thousands years ago, but, unlike its closest relatives, the Ibizan hound and the pharaoh dog, it is still unknown outside Italy. It looks like a small and lighter Greyhound with the style of a docked ear dobermann: the ears are long and pointy. Its chest is not as deep and not as angular and muscular as the greyhound. The eyes are amber and the nose is flesh-colored. The fur is very short and fine on the head and ears; and it is a bit longer and silky on the rest of the body. The color has to be uniform in any tone of fawn, but small white patches are accepted. Pure white or white with orange patches are accepted too. The height at withers is 46 to 50 cm in males and 42 to 46 in females. The weight is about 12 to 14 and 10 to 12 kg, respectively. |
