Position in which puppies are born

We already know that in approximately 60% of normal births puppies are born headfirst and the remaining 40% are born feet first. However, puppies are not always born the right way. So, let's look at the four possible common ways a dead puppy can be born:

    • Head leaning against the chest, with the legs extended frontward
    • head to a side, left or right, with one or both front legs stretched frontward; when only one of the legs is to the front, the other o

ne is stuck to the head, which makes it even more difficult to remove the puppy.
    • With the front legs to the back; although the head is stretched frontward, the fact that the back legs are also to the back makes it even more difficult to pull the puppy out.
    • When you only see the buttocks, but with the hind legs towards the head.

In all these cases is more difficult for the puppy to come out and it might mean the death of the puppy. An expert breeder or the veterinarian might be able to remedy the situation by trying to turn the puppy around with the help of his fingers. Hopefully, everything turns out to be OK.
