Porcelain Dog Breed
France
Both the Swiss and the French consider that the Porcelain dog is "their" breed. However, it is officially known that the origin is French. It has existed since the 18th century and it has been used normally in France as a tracking hound and to make the prey fly. It is considers that the old French hounds and the harrier or English greyhound are the ancestors of the current Porcelain dog.
It got its name because of its smooth, white and shinny coat which is often decorated with small orange marks that are especially abundant on the ears. It must have a long and well-molded head, the eyes are dark. The ears are inserted high on the head, long and hang in pretty folds. The tail has a medium length and it is taken slightly curved.
The height at withers is 55 to 58 cm in males and 53 to 56 females.
Poitevin Dog Breed
The Poitevin dog descends from French hounds that do not exist today and it was formed during the second half of 18th century. Later on, it was introduced in the English Foxhound breed, the Poitevin dog is today very similar to its English relative. However, it has longer and thinner ears; and the color of the coat is usually black with orange & white (sometimes only orange and white).
The height at withers is 60 to 70 cm; the weight is about 3 kg.
