People may not relate instantly this shaggy Otterhound with the St. Hubert Hound, but, under its coat, its physical built is very similar, as well as it is similar for its sense of smell. Despite the Otterhound has not been seen in British dog shows, it has been introduced in some occasions in North America dog shows. You may be tricked for drawing conclusions: at first sight, the Otterhound or otter hound dog has undeniably the aspect of a Crossbred dog.

However, under the coat there is a firm, muscled and symmetrical body. The head is slightly wider than of the St. Hubert Hound, who has it narrow and deep. The ears are large, delicate and drop, who gives it the impression to hide under the coat. The neck is considerably short, but the dog does not seem to have it due to the silky collar around it. It has a tail upwards but not curved, and, as the rest of the body, it must be covered of a strong and sticky coat. The coat must be neither smooth nor wooly.

The color is beige with sandy or grey tons, with somewhat diffuse spots of black and cinnamon colors. Its height at withers is 63 cm.
