Norwegian Buhund Dog Breed (Norsk Buhund)Norway Different from its native counterpart, the Elkhound, the Norsk Buhund has not been yet used for hunting; its traditional role has been of a farmstead dog, a function which it achieved successfully. It is common that the Elkhound and the Buhund lived together in the Norwegian farms, each of it fulfilling a precise mission. As it happens with many other Pomeranian dog breeds, it has been well proved that the Buhund was an excellent Shepherd dog, and it is sill used as such. It takes its name from the term "farm" in the Norwegian language. Different from other Scandinavian Pomeranian dogs, the Norwegian Buhund has attracted a lot of interest abroad, especially in Great Britain. The Buhund is a Pomeranian dog of middle size, very vivacious and brave. Its head is little weighted in a cot form, dark eyes, very vivacious and expressive; ears that have a sharp end and are flexible. It has a quite large neck, and a short and stiff. The tail must be quite short and thick, curved over the loin. The color is beige or light read, greyish-beige or black, preferable without white spots. Its height at withers is 45 cm for male dogs and a little less for female dogs. |
