Jura Hound Dog Breed (Bruno)Switzerland The Jura Hound belongs to the Swiss breeds group of the Greyhound / Foxhound, which also includes, for instance, the Luzernstövare. Unlikely to its distant relatives, the Niederlaufhunde use to have long legs. The Jura Hound or Jura Laufhund, as it is sometimes called, is not precisely one breed but two instead. The rule relative to the breed also specifically mentions the St. Hubert variety, which is more common to the bloodhound type rather than the Jura Hound, the latter more common and less weight. As it happens with other Swiss hounds, the Jura Hound is mainly used for hare hunting. It is acknowledged for having an excellent sense of smell and a sounding voice. Regarding the looks, it seems more similar to its brother breeds; it is medium-sized, a rectangular body, a quite long and narrow head, drop and long ears, and a prominent occipital bone. The most common variety of Jura Hound can be both of smooth-haired and rough-haired coats. The St. Hubert variety has always a smooth-haired coat. Its color is beige or reddish-brown, sometimes with a black back, but other times we may see black dogs with some brown spots. Its height at withers is 40 cm, but in average is from 45 to 55. |
