Hygenhund Dog Breed StövareNorway A long time ago, the Norwegian Hygenhund was a defined breed that was commonly found in the internal regions and in the eastern regions of Norway. However, even before the end of the last century, the breed was interbred with the Dunkerstövare, so now we can barely differentiate one from the other. At first, the Hygenhund was fawn red but since it was interbred with the Dunkerstövare the black specimens are rare. The main difference between the specimens of both breeds is supposed to be that the Hygenhund weighs a bit more and it is less elegant. Its head is wide, the stop is well marked and the snout is wide too, interestingly it is a bit shorter than the Dunkerstövare. The eye color should harmonize with the coat, but the Hygenhund should never have blue eyes. The ears are skinny and flexible and the hair should be thick, straight and bright. The color varies: cinnamon, black and cinnamon or even white with cinnamon and/or very black patches are acceptable. The height at withers is 47 to 60 cm. |
