How does weaning affect the mother?

If you just imagine the dogs in the wild, the bitches initiate the weaning process by providing her puppies with larger quantities of previously-chewed-on food, with which she satisfies their hunger and fills their stomachs. After a couple of weeks, the puppies are ready to already eat meat. That way, the mother's production of milk ends around the same time. However, are usually obligated to be separated from their puppies much before in order to stop producing milk in a more drastic and quicker way. During those days they must be under a strict diet. Most people have probably heard of the "Parsley paddy", which is good to cut the production of milk; its effect has not been entirely proven, but because of its extraordinarily good amount of iron and vitamins, Parsley does not cause any harm to the bitch.

In any case, I am including a calendar for your bitch's food and water intake:

  • First day of weaning: suppress all food intake; limit the intake of liquid to one fourth of what she normally drinks in three or four times.
  • Second day of weaning: limit the intake of food to one fourth of what she normally eats; they meant the intake of water to one fourth of what she normally drinks.
  • Third day of weaning: limit the intake of food to the middle.
  • Fourth day of weaning: limit the intake of food to three fourths of what she normally eats.
  • Fifth day: return to the normal amount.

During these five days, the mother will not be able to approach her little ones in order to avoid them trying to nurse again, thus stimulating the production of milk. Some people consider this to be a cruel measure, but it's the easiest way to do it.
