Hormonal Therapy Issues
The main problem that these preparations present, however, is the fact that the treated female can produce antibodies for these proteins and in a subsequent application of the same preparation can reject it, resulting in, many cases, death. Apart from that, it's good to bear in mind that preparations based on the LH of cattle can produce a counteraction when in contact with the LH of the female dog, leading to sterility. Therefore, it is very recommendable to set aside the personal ambitions of obtaining "superduper" litters and, instead, just let nature have its way.
On the other hand and until recently, the only way to induce abortion consisted in applying a treatment based on estrogens with consequences which were unfortunately dangerous; estradiol cipionate (ECP), when abused, produces marrow depression, appreciates the development of aplasial anemia, with the risk of death, besides producing cystic changes in the uterus, precisely due to the stimulation of progesterone production, with a consequent risk of pyometra. However -- luckily -- there are new products and our reach, non-hormonal, which is the case of clorofenil-triazol-isoquinolin, which injected between benign and the 13th day after mating has taken place assures that there is at least 80% chance of success in the interruption of pregnancy and there are scarce counter indications.
Therefore, it is convenient that, when you have the intention of provoking abortion, you consult with your veterinarian about the different possibilities, bearing in mind the pros and cons of each treatment and, even when there is no other way for the female to continue with the pregnancy until the final consequences. One final word of advice: do not worry about the social stigma related to abortion!
