Hamiltonst

Sweden

The Hamiltonstövare can be called without fear of exaggerating the number one of the Sweden hunting breeds. Numerically they are inferior to the drever but while this last breed is almost an unaltered Sweden version of the German breed, the Hamiltonstövare has been raised during centuries concretely for the hunting conditions ruling in Sweden. In other countries there are few specimens. The Hamiltonstövare descends from the foreign hounds mainly from specimens imported from Great Britain, Germany and Switzerland.

The dog is powerful, agile and has great physical resistance. The head is well-done; the snout is robust and very large; the eyes are light and dark brown. The ears are big and soft and close to the head. The tail has to be straight or slightly curved. The hair is tight and resistant to the action of the nature.

The Halmitonstövare is always tricolor: the cinnamon color prevails, with a black saddle and white patches on the snout, throat, chest, feet and the end of the tail. The height at withers is 50 to 60 cm in males and 46 to 57 in females.
