Haldenstövare Dog Breed

Haldenstövare Dog Breed

Norway

Unlike most Scandinavian breeds of the greyhound / foxhound type, the haldenstövare descends mainly from Anglo-Saxon imported dogs more than specimens that arrived from the Continent. The foxhound of Great Britain combined with Norwegian native varieties has given as a result the most "modern" of all the hounds that track by smell: it was not recognized as breed until a bit after 1950. The similarity with the foxhound is even larger, but the haldenstövare is usually a smaller fraction than its British ancestor.

It must have a vigorous constitution and a calm disposition. The head is very similar to the English foxhound, with the slightly tapered snout, and big and soft ears. The eyes must be dark brown, the neck is long and the body is strong and powerful. The rudimentary toenails are allowed (lower part of the pastern bone). The tail is thick but is carried lower than the English Foxhound

The color of the hair must be white with black patches and other cinnamon smaller ones on the head and the legs. The height is 50 to 60 cm.
