Gascon Saintongeois Dog Breed
France
The Gascon saintongeois French hound used to track the prey or make it fly towards the shotguns, is the product of the cross made more than a century ago. Nowadays, a few specimens are seen in France and they practically do not exist outside that country.
There are two varieties: big and small. The last one comes from the south west of France; except for the size it is identical to the big variety. Regarding the type, the breed looks a lot like the large Gascogny blue hound, but the head is attractively long and the ears are thin, very long and hang blended and are go downwards and backwards. The hair is short.
White prevails with black patches (brown patches on the head). A common detail is the grayish patch on the thighs, similar to the "dry leaves". The height at withers of the large variety is 63 to 70.5 cm in males and 60 to 65 in females. The small variety has about 6 to 7 cm less in height.
