Finland

The Finnish Spitz is a very active hunting dog which main role is to make the birds fly so they would stand on the trees and keep them there until the group of hunters arrives. Its ancestors lived in all the regions of the Nordic countries since pre-historic times. The first standard by which the Finnish Spitz will be ruled was written by Finnish people a century ago and since then this type of dog has improved and gained at the same time usefulness for the breed. During these last years it has become popular as a house dog outside the Nordic countries, especially in Great Britain.

The Finnish Spitz has the characteristics of a Pomeranian dog: firm body, bold aspect, vivacious temperament… and the ability to make everyone hear it! The eyes shine impatiently to hunt and it keeps the ears stiff, continuously in movement. Its body is short and flexible, the legs, which it uses as springs, are straight and the tail is strongly curved like an arch and is supported by the thigh. The hair is abundant, very long and straight, it should be particularly long in the neck, back, tail and thighs.

The color is reddish dark brown, yellowish red with lighter tonalities. It is preferred that it does not have any narrow white marks on the chest or white patches on the feet. The multi-colored dogs are not accepted. The height at withers is 44 to 50 cm in males and 39 to 45 in females.
