Finnish Hound Dog Breed SuomenajokoiraFinland The ancestors of the Finnish hound are very heterogeneous. Besides the ancient hunting dogs (from which the Sweden Stövare variety also descends) there are other ancestors that were especially imported from Russia. The type, as we know it now, was not definitely formed until late 1930.Since the Stövare type or the Finnish hound was formed before the Scandinavian varieties, it had time to get more established in the Scandinavian countries than other similar type of breeds. A non-initiated person could easily confuse it with the Hamiltonstövare, but apart from other differences, the Finnish hound usually has a superior slightly height, a physical constitution a bit more rectangular. The Finnish hound is vigorous, it does not mean that it is heavy; it has a very docile temperament though alert. The occiput is more pronounced than the Hamiltonstövare's; the snout is long and strong and it is well molded. The eyes are dark; the ears are very close to the head. The tail reaches the back of the knee; the hair is dense and very hard. The color is cinnamon, with a black saddle and white patches on the snout, neck, chest, feet and the end of the tail. |
