Field Spaniel Dog Breed

Field Spaniel Dog Breed

Great Britain

The Field Spaniel rarely appears in canine exhibitions of its country of origin. To see it, one must normally see hunting contests since it has been used as a working dog. It is exhibited more in North America where there is a bit smaller variety of this breed. The field Spaniel naturally shares the ancestors with other breeds of water dogs.

It is a well-balanced hunting dog and it has a docile temperament. According to the breed standard, it should also have certain "serious" expression. The head looks like the cocker's but it does not have the same distinction and in fact it looks more like the Setter's. The body and the skeleton are lighter than the cocker's and the hair is less abundant and it forms silky frayed edges similar to the ones of the Irish water dog.

As it happens with most water dogs, there are some varieties of colors, but black, black and cinnamon, roan or the shades of brown are more desirable than the multi-colors.

The height at withers is about 46 cm.
