Episiotomy

This consists in a surgical incision of the perineum to enlarge the vagina, thus facilitating delivery and avoiding any tears in the perineum.

Although this intervention is very common amongst human women, is rarely done on dogs. Once the puppies have been born, the veterinarian will close the incision, which will recuperate a couple of days, thanks to the good blood irrigation in that area.
