Dunkerstövare Dog BreedNorway It would not be possible to talk about the history of the Norwegian Dunkerstövare without including Hygenhund. At first, the two were entirely different regarding type. As the number of specimens of Dunkerstövare diminished, there was a risk of resulting breeding among them, so that the Dunkerstövare, of a strange roan gray color, was crossed with the Hygenhund, thus merging both breeds. Even when both are considered as two separate breeds, there are a few details, except for the color that allow distinguishing one from the other.Outside the country of origin, Norway, there are a few specimens of both breeds. The Dunkerstövare is a vigorous dog of great physical resistance and solemn expression. The head is very long and it has a well-marked stop, straight snout and eyes usually dark although in the harlequin-like specimens blue eyes are allowed. The eyes are very close to the head; the tail is the longest possible and it reaches until the back of the knee. The hair is abundant and thick. The color is black or harlequin-like (gray and black with white, brown or fawn patches). The height at withers is 47 to 57 cm. |
