Dog Shows and Rules for Judging
No one knows when and where the first evaluation was done on dogs based on their physical attributes. People have always wanted to value their domestic animals basted on how useful they are, without forgetting that the number of animals that they had had to be in proportion with the amount of available food supply. The first animals that were eliminated were those that were deficient, as well as those, including the dogs, that the owners could easily do without. It is no doubt that when dog breeding began, only those that were useful were taken into consideration.
Once civilization advanced, the custom to have dogs for esthetic reasons began to impose itself on society. During the Greek and Roman periods, dogs were valued by their beauty and their uniqueness. These tendencies were used as standards for the wealthiest European families. The idea of combining in an organized manner the pleasing esthetic characteristics with those that were materialistically useful was not seriously considered until the beginning of the XIX century.
