With a bit simplified names of Bichon Frisé or Bichon, the popularity of this breed during these last years have experimented a huge reemergence, especially in North America. It may be simply described as an equidistant breed of the Poodle or Wool Dog or Water Dog or Maltese. Its history is similar to other lapdogs or luxury dog breeds of the Mediterranean zone: it was a luxury dog that women of high society in medieval times appreciated a lot. It has a very abundant hair, especially on the head where it is slightly curly and of silky texture.

The color is white or white with patches of "white coffee" or dark gray color in the ears and the body. The height at withers should not exceed 30 cm but if the dog does not reach that size, it is even better.
