Cocker Spaniel Dog Breed

Great Britain

Its conciliating expression, long ears, tail that is always moving and also its joyful and affectionate temperament has made the cocker Spaniel one of the most popular breeds of the world.

In reality it is a pointing dog and although in general it is owned as a house dog, it manages to find how to use its unlimited energy. Although the Spaniel or water dog type is ancient in Great Britain, the cocker was not recognized as a breed until a bit less than the beginning of this century. It did not acquire until after the Second World War the great popularity that it now has.

The cocker Spaniel is a small and playful animal with a friendly and confident disposition. The head with its flat cheeks and a very visible stop is molded. It must have big eyes and a color that matches with the coat. The ears are long and flexible, they are put low. The body is compact and deep, the legs have good bones and the feet are round. The tail is docked very short and it is carried down (and it is always moving). The coat is straight and silky; it has frayed edges that are soft to the touch in the ears, the chest and the back part of the legs.

The color may vary from uniform tones to multi-colored or roan ones (speckled white with black, lemon, orange or brown). The ideal height at withers is about 40 cm.
