Char Pei Dog BreedChina The Chinese breed Char Pei is several hundreds years old. It mainly extends on the coast regions of the Southern China Sea. It is said that it was originated in the city of Dha Let, in the province of Kwun Tung. Initially it was used for hunting wild boars or as a fighting dog, an activity which in another time was a popular hobby both in China and in England and in the US. In England this sport was introduced when in 1835 dog-bull fighting was abolished by the law.The Char Pei is a medium-sized dog, with a robust and compact body and a calm and friendly temperament. Its main characteristic is having the skin a bit loose which makes it a "wrinkled" breed. The short hair is stiff and very wire. The red, black or toasted color in different tones also a bit lighter cream at the back of the rear legs and under the tail. The white patches are not accepted. The height at withers is 40 to 51 cm. In the last years, the Char Pei has been exported to the U.S. There are also a few specimens in Denmark. |
