Blue Gascony Griffon Dog BreedFrance Although its name is not known as one of the components of the group of griffons, the word "griffon" derives from the Latin term gryphys or the German griffer or greiffer, which means grab or seize. In the European continent, they are considered as member of a group of wire-haired hunting dogs, while today not all of them are hunting dogs. An exception is the lapdog of Brussels, known as Brussels griffon. From the Blue Gascony griffon there are two varieties of size, one big known as large blue griffon that is similar to a billy, but it has a wire-haired tuft and the ears are long and fallen. The hair is medium sized long, thick and wire. The white is intermixed with a multiple small black patches giving the dog a general blue tint; that is the reason for its name. The height at withers is 60-73 cm for males and 60-65 cm for females. The photo shows a less variety, the miniature Gascony blue griffon that it is an exact copy of the larger variety or large griffon except for the size. The ears are wide and fallen and the tail is slightly curved. The color is the same as the large griffon but the height at withers does not exceed 43 to 52 cm. |
