Black Elkhound Dog Breed

Black Elkhound Dog Breed

Norway

The Black Elkhound is rarely seen even in its native country and is practically unknown outside the Norwegian countries. It proceeds from the boundary zone between Norway and Sweden and it is quite old as a pure Pomeranian dog breed, as it deserved to be officially acknowledged back in 1877. It is considered less affectionate and more "harsh" than the Elkhound; despite of having a similar physical build than the Elkhound, it serves for the same purpose and for being its native counterpart, they both share a little of the same ancestry.

The black Elkhound is more similar to the Elkhound, but its coat is much more shorter, a detail that gives it the aspect of a less weighted and less robust dog.

The color is indistinctly black. Its height at withers is 45-50 cm for male dogs and a little less for female dogs.
