Beagle Dog Breed
Great Britain
Compared to the English Foxhound, which are seen on rare occasions at the modern dog fairs, the beagle's career has quick and worldwide. However, it has a lot in common with the English Foxhound, even though it was mainly used in packs for rabbit hunting, with hunters following by foot. Nowadays, in Great Britain its country of origin, in North America and every day in other parts of the world, the Beagle is considered a pet. In Scandinavian countries, these dogs are used for hunting.
The Beagle is vigorous and of a strong character and it gives the impression of great physical resistance and energetic. Its head is powerful looking, without looking rough; it has a bellied skull, with the prominent part much defined (angle between the forehead and snout), wide nose and long ears of fine texture. Its neck, moderately long and well proportioned on a muscular body strong ribs. Its forearms and legs are upright, robust and of rounded bone structure, finishing off with well padded paws and strong articulations. It carries its tail gaily but not curled over its back. As occurs with beagles of a smooth coat, which has short and bushy hair, there also exists another variety less common that has a rough coat.
The color varies, but any coloring which is appropriate for hounds is acceptable, which ordinarily includes some white. Its height at withers is 33-41 cm long.
