Barbet Dog Breed
France
The Barbet is not very common today but it has an ancient origin and it is the ancestor of modern breeds that range from the poodle to the wool dog or from the water dog to the German Pointer. As a general description we would say that it looks like a mixture of those two breeds, in other words, a type of hairy dog and not very refined one. It is considered an excellent dog to hunt in water.
Among its characteristics, the Barbet as a breed, the Barbet has a deep chest, arched back, short snout and ears put down that are taken hanging. The tail is also carried down but it is taken high and sometimes with a curved end. The eyes are big and wide and this makes that it has a "presumed" way of walking. The hair is wooly, long and thick. The color may be white with black, dark gray, fawn patches or may be a white pale tone with dark patches. The height at withers is 45 to 55 cm.
