North America

The American cocker, water dog, is an interesting example of what may happen when the breed is moved from one country to another. When the English started to colonize America, they introduced water dogs that gradually became so different without the mixture of any foreign blood and "American" regarding the type, that they eventually were officially recognized as a separate breed. This happened at the end of the last century.

This variety of extreme and colorful water dogs has been popular in America for a long time as a house dog, but in Scandinavia and Great Britain it only started to gain ground in this aspect a few years ago.

The American cocker is usually a bit smaller than the English cocker and it is surprising that its constitution is as solid as this one. The fur that is much more abundant than the common cocker, especially in the ears, legs and abdomen must be straight or wavy.

The color varies from a uniform tone to multi-colored one or to roan of any shade. The weight is 10 to 13 kg. The height at withers is about 40 cm.
