Alentejo Shepherd Dog Breed

Alentejo Shepherd Dog Breed
Rafeiro do Alentejo

Portugal

The Portuguese Shepherd comes from the province of Alentejo, south of Lisbon. It looks like a short-haired Saint Bernard, but its physical constitution is in general lighter. The head is similar to the head of a bear with a wide skull and the eyes are small and dark with a calm expression. The ears of medium size are taken fallen and they must be very movable. The tail is slightly curved; it is carried like a ring when the dog is in alert. The coat has a medium length and sometimes it is short.

Black, gray, cream or fawn are accepted with white marks. White marks usually appear with any of those colors or multiple colors.

The height at withers is 66 to 74 cm in males and 64 to 70 in females.
