Alaskan Malamute Dog Breed

Alaskan Malamute Dog Breed

Alaska

The Alaskan Malamute is an Artic Pomeranian breed which is relatively rare outside United States. The natives of Alaska used them primitively as dogs for tobogganing, and they were so efficient for this activity that others dogs were used for tobogganing, however, at the beginning of this century, they caught the attention of the white man and he began to "perfect the breed". Due to cross-breeding with other breeds, the pure Alaskan Malamute breed began to diminish.

The Alaskan Malamute is a stocky, strong, energetic, upright head, firm stance. Its slanted eyes make it similar to the wolf; however, they have a friendly expression. Its coat is full and rigid, particularly full throughout the chest, neck and tail, forming a crest at the end of the latter.

Its color is usually grey or black with white spots. Its height at withers is from 64-70 cm long for male dogs, and between 58-64 tall for female dogs.
