Aidi Dog Breed

Aidi Dog Breed

Morocco

It is supposed that the Aidi, a breed that is almost unknown outside of its own country, is an excellent watchdog and of hunt as well. Its origin is unknown, however it is believed that its ancestors were dogs of European mountains taken to Morocco through the Gibraltar stretch and were left to breed in the region of the Atlas Mountains. It seems unlikely that that could have occurred in a desert region.

The Aidi is a strong, audacious and smart dog. Its eyes should be dark, but colors ranging from black to brown are accepted, depending on the color of its hair. This also applies to the color of its nose. Its hair is of medium length (6 cm long), but more abundant in the hind legs and on the tail. In some parts of the country where it lives, it has cropped ears and tail, but these are details that are less desirable.

The color varies; white, black and white, fawn, salt and pepper, and tri-color; all of them are acceptable. In some dogs, a white collar is considered desirable. Its height at withers is 52-62 cm long.
