Afghan Hound Dog Breed
Afghanistan
The outstanding hair of the Afghan hound, its classic characteristic stance and other details, its arrogant air, make it stand out in seconds, in reality it is an exotic animal in our daily western life.
It is originally from the highlands of the south of Afghanistan, however in the cold and inhospitable Asian mountains it did not take long for it to grow a protective coat of hair and for it to develop a lively temperament; there is proof that the afghan was used to hunt, even larger game in its native surroundings. This breed was not well known in the West until 1920, during that time it attracted a lot of attention due to its unique look, to the point that nowadays it is growing in numbers.
The Afghan gives the impression of dignity and strength and it should possess an air of supreme indifference. It has a long and well formed head and a reserved expression. Its tails curls up and forms a characteristic circle at the end. Its hair is long and of a fine texture at the flanks, paws and ears, however it is short on the back and the snout.
All colors are accepted. Its height at withers is from 68-75 cm long for male dogs, and 5-8 less for female dogs in average.
