What to do When Your Dog Bites You
The very first thing you should do if your dog bites you is not panic. There is probably some reason or motivation behind your dog biting you and it is very possible that your dog also feels scared and frightened and unsure of what to do next. What you should do when your dog bites you is stay calm and try to understand what happened. Is your dog injured and you touch a sensitive spot, or was your dog fighting and you intervened at the wrong moment, did you startle your dog or frighten it somehow? If the answer is yes to any one of these questions then you really don’t have much to worry about as your dog biting you under one of these circumstances is more or less to be expected since dogs bite as a defense mechanism and don’t really have many options available to them when it comes to communicating what is wrong. However if you can not find any reason why your dog bit you or if your pet actually attacked you in an aggressive and domineering way then you shouldn’t hesitate to call the Animal Control or local Police. Either way if you have received a bite from your dog you should immediately contact your veterinarian and ask advice as to what you should do next. If the bite is deep and bleeding then you will need to stop the bleeding quickly as a deep wound that is bleeding can be life threatening. Before you go to the emergency room try your best to make sure that your dog is restrained or inside a secure area. Also you can call Animal Control to ask for their help if you can’t take care of the situation by yourself. |
