First and foremost is to determine if the insect that gave your dog the bite and from which it is suffering the symptoms is poisonous. You can do this by capturing the insect or just by simply taking a digital picture of it with a digital camera or your cellular phone. Then take your dog and the insect or picture to your veterinarian or closest veterinarian clinic for a check up and diagnosis of its symptoms. Below are some steps you can take if your dog is showing symptoms of a spider or insect bite.

Pet topical antibiotics are not helpful unless the wound becomes infected. Do not pick or scrape the wound. Monitor the bite for redness, swelling, pain, or signs of infection. Re-apply spider bite medication to control bite symptoms and promote healing.
