Fly Bite on Dog Ear
If your dog gets a fly bite on its ear this can often lead to infection and much worse problems, in fact a infected fly bite on your dog’s ear can even lead to deafness in that ear if left untreated. The reason for the seriousness of the problem is that dog like to scratch things that annoy them and believe me a fly bite is extremely annoying. Not only that but many flies that bite also carry germs and other unwanted parasites that can on their own cause infections and since the ear has an open canal into your dogs head and which also leads to your dog’s brain you can imagine what the repercussions can be. It is always best to take your dog to the veterinarian at the first sign of any infection on your dog’s ear and especially if it is an infection resulting from a bite. One thing is that often you can not really be sure where the bite came from. It is possible that the bite on your dog’s ear is from a mosquito or fly but it is also just as possible that it is a bite from a spider and some spiders like the brown recluse can cause serious cutaneous damage with the cutaneous form of reaction being seen within 2-6 hours of the bite with signs of localized pain and redness. A blister is seen within 12 hours of the bite. The skin dies and focal ulceration occurs within 7-14 days. Skin healing is very slow, taking several months, and scars may remain. So even though you might think that the bite on your dog’s ear is harmless if left untreated it could turn into something much more serious. |
