Dog Bite Rabies
Whenever a dog bite occurs there is always the danger of getting Rabies from a Dog Bite. A doctor that encounters a Dog Bite victim will need to protect the patient from Rabies and infection by giving the person rabies treatment if the dog has been identified as having it. In some cases you may still be required to get this treatment if you are not able to find the dog that bit you. In other cases repair of wounds might simply require closure and removal of damaged tissue and in more extensive cases reconstructive surgery. If underlying bone and never injuries have occurred they will also need repair. On occasions completely severed tissue can be replaced as a graft or reattached with microsurgical repair of teensy blood vessels. In some cases other tissue must be removed into the defect in order to close and repair the wound. This type of reconstruction can take up to years. Scarring in severe cases is inevitable however scars can be improved but they cannot be completely removed or erased. If your dog has bitten someone you will need to show the dog’s medical records and proof that it has received its rabies shots. Doing this will help the person that got bit feel more at ease.
