We were looking into the different options for dog beds here in the UK and found that there are many interesting pet supply stores and Internet sites that have a wide range of varieties. We weren’t really sure of what to get at first and we started off by setting up a small box with a blanket inside to keep him warm, however after the first night we decided we would let our puppy sleep with us in our bedroom after hearing how he cried the night before. Later on when we talked to our veterinarian about it, he told us that it was something that a lot of puppies do on their first nights in a new environment and that it was normal for them to miss the presence of their mother. He told us that yelling out at a puppy that is wimping and crying doesn’t do any good either as they usually just start up again and that it would just make him more nervous. He suggested taking the dog to our bedroom to sleep so that he would be able to feel our presence and that it would probably help him clam down. However he said that this should only be done one time. He suggested that we then place one of our t-shirts or a blanket in our dog’s bed that had our odor on it and to additionally add a couple toys in his bed, which would help keep him distracted. He told us to not pay attention to our dog’s crying and whining and that the puppy should calm down. It worked in our case and we were very happy with the results. Our dog loves the dog bed we got him here in the UK and we’re happy we followed our vet’s advice.
