The Warning Feature on Spray Commander
The verbal warning "HEY!" is used just before the citronella spray on Spray Commander. Used without the spray, it is applied as a warning, that is, if the dog doesn't cooperate immediately, he will receive the short citronella spray. Just like the SR "SOUNO + GODO!", the verbal warning ("HEY!") used without the spray indicates the exact moment when the fault was committed.
The correction doesn't have to be painful or scary to be efficient. In fact, it can be very gentle, and only puts an end to an act, which can sometimes be difficult when using only the voice. After having used the VW "HEYI + SHORT SPRAY" combination a few times, "HEY!" should suffice in redirecting your dog, because he will not want to get another spray. A verbal warning aims at reducing the possibility of having unacceptable behavior repeat itself in the future. The verbal warning (VW), coupled with the spray, is a unique combination in the field of canine education. This technique, fast and efficient, gently shows the dog the difference between right and wrong. Like the secondary reinforcement (SR), the verbal warning (VW), whether used with or without the spray, must be administered at the very moment when the fault is committed. If you wait even a few seconds, it will be too late, and the dog will be unable to make the association required to redress his behavior. If the behavior is incorrect, it must be redirected as it happens by using the long spray, with no verbal warning whatsoever.
According to the dictionary, .correction" is defined as "a change for the better, to set straight". In other words, the dog learns faster with correction than without it. Efficient correction assists learning without provoking fear. The process includes two elements : one indicates error, the other offers the correct response. A teacher who only identifies error without explaining it deprives the student of his learning. The same thing applies for any situation where an error is pointed out and must be remedied. It is not enough to know that the error exists; it must be understood to be corrected. Once the error has been well identified and described, it is possible to integrate the good response to the learning process. The Spray Commander@ device, combined with the Multivet training program, will assist you in reaching your learning objectives without pain, fear, or verbal violence, or any other form therein. Remember never to use the spray during the learning process where commands are concerned.
