Types of cat food

Cats need food that is specially formulated to give them the nutrition and vitamins that they need to help them to grow and develop normally. There are many different types of cat foods available both dry and canned. The final choice of what you feed your cat will often have a lot to do with your budget.

Dry cat food has a less offensive odor than canned cat food. It also has the advantage of being able to be left out in your cat's bowl without spoiling or becoming infested with flies or other insects. Dry cat food also helps keep the cat's teeth clean, as they have to chew the crunchy biscuits before they swallow them. Canned food may appear more appetizing and nutritious but you cannot leave it in the cat's bowl all day as it will spoil and could cause your cat an upset stomach.

If you choose to change your cat's diet from, for example, dry cat food to canned cat food or even from one brand to another make sure to do it slowly and gradually otherwise you could cause your cat serious problems.

Water: Your cat's water bowl should always be full of fresh clean water. If your cat eats canned food it is possible that it won't drink much water, as it will get most of the liquid that it needs from the food. However if your cat eats dry cat food then you must make sure to always keep its water bowl full.

One sure sign of sickness is if your cat begins to drink water excessively. If you notice that your cat is drinking lots of water and more frequently than normal it is a good idea to contact your veterinarian and set up an appointment for a check up.

Amazing as it may sound adult cats don't need milk. What's more, many adult cats are lactose intolerant and giving them milk to drink will only cause them stomach problems. Unless your cat is malnourished, milk products are an unnecessary part of a healthy cats diet.
