To Educate a Cat

They say that sometimes cats are difficult or almost impossible to educate. This is an exaggeration. But what it is true is that they don't show the same good disposition or enthusiasm as dogs do.

The dog, as a group animal that he is, responds instinctively to their owners, whom they recognize as leaders of the pack and to whom they look for approval.

The right focus
Cats lack of that innate desire to be pleasing. They are more pragmatic and they only act when there is a benefit on sight for it, to educate them, you will have to work with prizes and rewards. This doesn't mean that they are not intelligent, because sometimes they show an amazing memory for remembering people and places. They also learn the house routines very quickly and know, for example, when the children return from school or at what time does the family get up in the morning.

Memory and prizes are the key for cats to learn. Wild felines know it very well and, when they teach their kittens to hunt and kill, they demonstrate it dozens of times until, at last, they give them delicious bits of the prey as gratification.

It is necessary to teach cats to do certain things, as to come when they are called upon and not do things they shouldn't, as scratching the furniture.

Each specific task must be practiced in a separate was and you must give them time and patience.

Where to do their needs
Kittens usually learn this from their mothers, but sometimes they forget when arriving to a new home where the tray with hygienic sand is not yet familiar.

The best is to reinforce this routine of good habits.

Put the kitten standing near the tray of sand, then put its front legs on it, removing the sand so they can learn how to dig. Instinctively, cats tend to cover the urine and the feces, so the bulb in their head will not take long to light.

Always give them a reward of soothing words and caresses after they accomplish something, and once in a while with a bite of something tasty.

After, change quickly the sand and wash well the tray for the kitten to find it clean the next time he needs it.
