The Korat Cat

The Korat, an oriental cat discovered in Thailand, is considered in his native country as an amulet of the good luck; "Si-Sawat", can mean " good look"; his international name is from Korat's region, a high plateau in the distant north-east of the country, where he is known, at least, since the XIVth century and he is mentioned in the Book of poems of the cat of the kingdom of Ayuthia (1350-1757).

In spite of being an ancient breed of mellow lineage, the Korat Cat has not been known out of Thailand and of Asia even it does a little time. It is believed that the first Korat that was exported, defined as a Siamese blue monocolor, that have been can have met in the Great Brittany towards the ends of the XIXth century. However, the modern history of the breed started in 1959, the first pair proceeding from Bangkok being imported in the United States. The Korat was called so much attention and obtained recognition in 1966. He did not get in Europe until 1972.

A head in shape of heart
Though in many aspects the Korat resembles the Russian blue, there are important differences. The same thing that the Russian one, is a cat showy elegantly, with a few green penetrating eyes and a short hair silvering blue . However, the head does not look like the Russian . He is much more delicate appearance and, seeing in front, has the head in the shape of heart. In side-view he is more short than the Russian and has the slight between the forehead and the nose. The eyes seem to be too big in relation with the face. Round and luminous when they are completely opened, they see as oriental when they are partially closed. The brilliant green color of the eyes does not appear until the cat is already mature, habitually between 2 and 4 years. The eyes of the kiitties and the young cats goes from the yellow color to amber or green amber. The big ears are placed in the top of the head, given the cat an mindful expression. The korat's bodies are well muscled and strong.

The hair is strong and do not have an internal cap. Is blue, with the hair of protection pointing in silvering, which gives him an intense shining.. On the contrary of the double cap of the Blue Russian, which appeared the same, but it raising quickly when is flattening, the thin cap of korats' is stick to the body and only needs a cloth or a comb to maintain softly.

The korats are reserved cats, sensitive and intelligent. If you give them loving and attention, they are close to the owners, but also are demanding and obstinate and .gets his desires. This can be that they become dull and possessive if you let them alone all day long. They are playful until the old age and very docile. Even the females are good mothers, the lit is no numerous.
