The Importance of Socializing

Not all cats gets along well with children. A common reason of problems is the fault of socialization when the cat is very small. If a cat is going to live with small children, the ideal thing would be that he had grown up in a familiar active and noisy environment, and that had handled him often between two and seven weeks of age. The few socialized cats are in the habit of being shy, avoid the children or scratch and bite if they are caught against his will. There are many families that prefer adopting a kitty better than a big cat and this is in the habit of working well, as the kitty is accustomed to catch him carefully since a very early age. The children like to take and caress to the little animals.

The children who already are older we have to monitor very closely when they are with cats, to avoid dangers to both. The parents must teach their children not to shout the cat, neither pull the tail, do not leave him to fall down, nor pressing him ... and do not enclose in a cupboard, in the washer or, which is worse, in the microwave. The not desirable violence of the children can irritate the nervous behavior even in very sociable cats.

Inversely, even when the child does not make anything bad, problems can arise with unsociable cats. If a cat tends to have a predator behavior toward the extremities of the persons who move, it is very probable that heattacks to the feet or the hands of a child. It is necessary to stop immediately any sign of this behavior if we have some difficulty, is necessary to speak with the veterinarian.
