Teaching Your Cat Simple Tricks

Many cats like learning small tricks, because that means fun. It is not that your trying to train in the usual way of talking; because cats do what they feel like doing and not the contrary.

One condition for him to have fun. If you see that he is not interested, don't oblige him. This would destroy its confidence in you. Praise him after every exercise and give him a treat the words "up". Repeat the order until the cat has learned the trick.

Doing postures: Hold in front of the cats mouth a piece of cheese. Slowly hold the cheese higher until the cat rises with it. If he can hold himself with his rear legs, give him the treat the words "up" repeat the order until the cat has learned the trick.

To go and fetch objects: Some cats like to go and fetch objects without even being taught for. Probably this has its origins in the instinct of taking the preys back to their whelps. If your cat brings you his small ball or toy mouse giving jumps, surely he must have the capacity to go and fetch things. Then he will stay put waiting for you to throw the objects. With the order of "bring it" or "go fetch", you can invite him to repeat the game. The game even functions when there is a visit. Specially, dog owners get impress when they see it.

To learn to speak: Cats can learn to speak. If you hold a piece of food in front of his nose and you ask him "Do you want it", generally, he will keep on staring the food and he will say "meow, meow, meow", it means yes.

"HOOP-LA"
Hit with your hand on a chair, sofa or bed when the cat is sitting before them. If he is preparing to jump, at the same time give him the order "Hoop-La". If he does get on top, give him a treat as recognition. Soon he will be jumping every time ha hears the order, because he knows he will receive a prize.

Equilibrium: When they walk their outside territory, cats don't get discourage by having to do equilibrium on top of thin gutters or on top of the fence of a garden. The equilibrium can be also reproduced inside the house, for example, with a wooden board in between to chairs. Put the cat on one of the chairs that hold the board and make him walk from one side to the other by attracting him with a treat. If the tricks is going to work, The board must be firmly put. A prudent cat will not get on a board twice if it keeps rocking.

To jump through a tire: What lions do at a circus, cats can do at home: Jump through a tire. Hold a tire on the floor in front of the cat. Make him go through the tire attracting him whit a treat. Each time put the tire a little higher. When he jumps, give the order "Jump". Then offer him the treat.
