Symptoms of a sick cat
Go to the veterinarian immediately if the cat presents some of the following complications:
Ocular problems: secretions, inflammation of the eyelid, change of eye color, more sensibility to light, third visible eyelid, problems of vision.
Auditory disorders: secretions, dark brown wax, scratching or rubbing in excess. If it moves or tilts the head, it might have a lump or hearing inconvenient.
Respiratory difficulties: trouble breathing, constant sneezes, cough, secretions, fever.
Affections in the skin: continuous scratching, hair loss, excessive cleaning, has stings, baldness in some zones, flees or other parasites or swelling under the skin.
Digestive problems: constantly vomiting, has diarrhea, or persistent constipation, loss of appetite, blood appears in dregs.
Disorders of the nervous system: has convulsions or attacks, muscular spasms, partial or complete paralysis, walks unstably and irritation of the skin.
Affections of the reproductive system: Blood in the genitalia, abnormal secretions, inflammation in the mammary glands or in the testicles.
Dysfunction of the urinary system: Blood in the urine, incontinence or excess of urine, excessive thirst.
Cardiovascular diseases: Collapses or faints, bluish coloration in the gums, respiratory difficulties, doesn't want neither to make exercises nor move.
Internal parasites: it is diagnosed by the presence of worms in the dregs, persistent diarrhea, pimples in the anal zone, licks or rubs rear end, swollen abdomen and loses weight.
Muscular or osseous problems: difficulties to walk, lameness, inflammation of legs or any other parts of the body, sensibility when it touches itself certain zone, resistance to walk or jump and walks unstably.
Conduct disorders: sleeps to much, drinks more water, doesn't want to go out, doesn't eat, is agitated, hides systematically.
Common diseases
A great variety of diseases exist, which go from genetic and congenital; to virus infections, bacteria or parasites. You must know how to prevent them or treat them and avoid your cat from more suffering.
Feline leukemia
Viral disease that attacks their immune system, making it defenseless before any other infectious agents, like AIDS in humans. Cats can present the disease at once or carry it for the rest of their lives.
Transmission: in an adult cat it is through direct contact with the skin, hair and secretions; mucus and saliva, mostly of an infected cat. Kittens get contaminated through the placenta or mothers breast milk.
Clinical signs: appearance of tumors in: lymphatic gastrointestinal nodules, kidney, eyes, nervous system, skin, lung, heart, urinary bladder, nasal routes or bone marrow, that they frequently present with anemia. For females it can cause infertility and if it is already pregnant, it can cause abortion, reabsorption or death of the fetus and weakness on the kitten once is born.
Treatment: it is costly. It includes antibiotic, immunological modulars, antiviral medicaments and even transfusions that can prolong their life.
